ArtistOps

Royalties, rights and the money, in one ledger.

Import royalty statements into a ledger, see revenue and expenses by channel and currency, check ownership splits and track contract renewal dates.

What is ArtistOps?

ArtistOps is the money side of an artist business. Royalty and streaming statements — exported as CSV from DistroKid, TuneCore or CD Baby, which have no public API — are imported into a ledger beside expenses, show settlements and merchandise income. Summaries are per currency, because nothing is converted, and every total says how much of it is bank-verified, statement-reported or estimated, because adding an estimate to a verified payment does not make the estimate verified. ArtistOps shows how concentrated revenue is across channels, budget against actual, and monthly cash flow with a running balance. A rights record's ownership shares must total exactly 100%, and an amount is divided by them so the parts add back to the whole — but the check is arithmetic: it says nothing about who actually owns a work, which is always what a person records. Contracts get reminders for the last day to give renewal notice. The ledger exports as CSV for your accountant.

Problems it solves

  • Bring statements from several distributors into one ledger
  • Tell verified income from statement-reported and estimated amounts
  • See how dependent the business is on one channel
  • Divide an amount by recorded splits without losing a cent
  • Catch a contract renewal notice before the window closes
  • Hand an accountant a clean CSV

Key capabilities

Royalty Statements and Ledger
Import statements into a ledger that never mixes currencies and reports verified, statement-reported and estimated amounts separately.
Ownership Split Checks
Check that recorded shares total exactly 100% and divide an amount so the parts add back to the whole. Who owns a work is recorded, never inferred.
Transparent Payouts
Show exactly how a payout figure was calculated, line by line.
Human Approval Gates
Anything with an outside consequence — a pitch sent, a product published, a campaign sent, a booking committed — waits for a person with the named permission.

How it is built

Statement import
CSV statements from DistroKid, TuneCore and CD Baby. A layout it does not recognise, or an amount with fractions of a cent, is refused rather than guessed at or rounded away.
Ledger by verification
Totals split into verified, statement-reported and estimated, per currency.
Revenue concentration
Each channel's share and the Herfindahl–Hirschman index, with the threshold stated.
Budget and cash flow
Budget against actual per expense channel, and monthly cash flow with a running balance.
Split checks
Shares must total exactly 100%; amounts divide by the largest-remainder method so nothing is created or lost.
Contract reminders
The last day to give renewal notice, and how many days are left — or how long ago it passed.

How it works

How the work is structured, and what each step's output rests on.

  1. Import statements

    Source

Distributor CSVs, settlements, merchandise income and recorded expenses.

  2. Summarise

    Observed

Per currency, per channel, per verification level.

  3. Check splits

    Observed

Arithmetic on the shares a person recorded.

  4. Approve payouts

    Human-verified

Recording a payout as verified needs a person with finance approval.

  • “Split this sync fee by the recorded shares.”
  • “Which contracts need a renewal notice in the next 60 days?”

Questions

Does ArtistOps connect to my distributor?
DistroKid, TuneCore and CD Baby offer no public API, so you export the statement as CSV and import it here.
Does it work out who owns a song?
No. Ownership is what a person records. ArtistOps checks that the shares total 100% and divides amounts by them; it never infers ownership.
Does it convert currencies?
No. A conversion rate is a fact with its own source and date, so summaries are kept per currency.

Teams using ArtistOps often want these too.
