Ecology

Impact reporting that survives an audit.

Assess environmental footprint, track the backlog of deferred impact, and prioritise the actions that actually move it.

What is Ecology?

Sustainability reporting fails in two directions: numbers assembled from estimates nobody can trace, and action lists ordered by how easy they are rather than how much they matter. Ecology assesses footprint with the basis recorded per figure, tracks the accumulated backlog of deferred impact, and ranks opportunities by effect rather than convenience — so the report and the plan derive from the same evidence.

Problems it solves

  • Assess environmental footprint with the basis for each figure
  • Track the backlog of deferred environmental impact
  • Rank actions by effect rather than convenience
  • Produce reporting that can be audited
  • Compare sites or periods on one method

Key capabilities

Evidence Trail
Every figure carries the record it came from, so a reader can check the answer instead of trusting it.
Confidence Ceilings
Confidence is capped by the strength of the underlying basis, so a weak source cannot produce a strong-sounding claim.
Risk Scoring
Score a change, a lot or a habitat on a published rubric you can read component by component.
Forecasting
Project a pipeline, a harvest or a load curve, with the drivers behind the number visible.

How it is built

Basis per figure
Each number records whether it is measured, derived or estimated.
Eco-debt backlog
Deferred impact is tracked explicitly rather than disappearing.
Effect-ranked actions
Opportunities ordered by modelled effect.

How it works

How the work is structured, and what each step's output rests on.

  1. Gather activity data

    Source

Collect the operational data footprint is derived from.

  2. Assess footprint

    Observed

Compute impact and record the basis per figure.

  3. Track deferred impact

    Observed

Record what has been postponed rather than resolved.

  4. Model opportunities

    Estimate

Estimate the effect of candidate actions.

  5. Prioritise

    Recommendation

Rank by modelled effect and state assumptions.

Example use cases

Each example has its own page you can read and share.

Ecology

Assess footprint with the basis recorded

Compute environmental footprint where every figure records whether it is measured, derived or estimated.

Ecology

Track the impact you have deferred

Record deferred environmental action explicitly so it accumulates visibly rather than silently.

Ecology

Rank actions by effect, not by ease

Model candidate actions and order them by modelled effect with assumptions stated.

Ask Ecology

Illustrative examples. Results depend on your own data.

  • “What is our footprint by site this year, and how was it derived?”
  • “Which actions would reduce it most?”
  • “What deferred impact have we accumulated?”
  • “Which figures here are estimates rather than measurements?”

Security, governance and human control

Where the software deliberately limits itself.

Governance

  • Every figure records measured, derived or estimated basis

Questions

Is this a certified carbon accounting tool?
It is analysis and reporting software. Figures record their basis so they can be reviewed, but certification against a specific standard is a separate process.

Teams using Ecology often want these too.
