Music

The studio work that is not making music.

Organise a sample library, keep sessions moving, and analyse mixes and masters with the measurements shown.

What is Music?

A producer's time divides badly between making music and managing the apparatus around it — a sample library nobody can search, sessions whose state lives in someone's memory, and mix decisions argued from opinion. Music is project-centred: the project is the spine, and sample organisation, session context and mix analysis hang off it. Analysis reports measurements — level, balance, spectral distribution — rather than a verdict, because a number you can see is arguable and a score is not.

Problems it solves

  • Find a sample by what it sounds like
  • Keep session state with the project rather than in memory
  • Analyse a mix on measurements rather than opinion
  • Prepare a master with the requirements of the target in view
  • Keep versions and decisions attached to the project

Key capabilities

Catalogue Organisation
Tag, group and make a large media library searchable by what it sounds like.
Audio Analysis
Analyse a mix or master for level, balance and spectral problems, with measurements shown.

How it is built

Project as spine
Samples, sessions, versions and analysis belong to a project rather than a folder.
Sound-based search
Find material by character, not only by filename.
Measured analysis
Level, balance and spectral problems reported as measurements.

How it works

How the work is structured, and what each step's output rests on.

  1. Create the project

    Source

Establish the project that sessions, samples and versions attach to.

  2. Organise material

    Observed

Tag and index the library by sonic character.

  3. Work the session

    Source

Keep session context and decisions with the project.

  4. Analyse

    Observed

Measure the mix or master and report specifics.

Example use cases

Each example has its own page you can read and share.

Ask Music

Illustrative examples. Results depend on your own data.

  • “Find me warm analogue-sounding drum breaks around 90 bpm.”
  • “What is fighting in the low-mids of this mix?”
  • “Is this master appropriate for the target platform?”
  • “What changed between version three and version four?”

Questions

Does it master automatically?
It analyses and reports. Mastering decisions stay with the engineer, because a target curve is a judgement about the music.

Teams using Music often want these too.
